Hello and Welcome

So here we are with the first post in my blog.  I don’t want to ramble on at you about how excited I am (though I am excited), or how I hope to provide you with useful information, and so on with all the usual stuff.

Instead I’ll go over the plans for the blog (which you’re free to chime in about if you want changes; first time I’ve done this) and introduce myself so you know who you’re talking to!

Who Am I?

Hi there, my name’s Heather, and I’m a 3D-holic.  Pleasure to meet you all!  I’m a student in Scotland, and I’ve been working with 3D (academically) for about two and a half years now.  I don’t claim to be an expert by any means; I’m just here trying to learn the same as you.

I like working with 3D Lighting, Texturing, and Visual Effects the most (which will probably end up being reflected in the content) though I’m not adverse to Modelling, Animation, and other forms of Digital Art.

Here’s a photo of me, for the curious:

I’ll be the person updating the blog for the most part although the observant among you will notice that the blog is linked to a company website; it’s not ready to launch yet but I do have another couple of people that’ll be working with me there.  I’ll keep you posted on the site progress, and if they decide they want to share something with you I’ll introduce them then.

Speaking of ‘site progress’ – this blog’s design isn’t finished yet either.  This is because I’m a perfectionist, I apologise, and things will be a lot prettier in a month or two.

Now that I’ve gone off on a tangent and (potentially) confused some people…

The Blog Plan

As it stands, the plan for this blog is to post three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday:

  • On Mondays I’ll be talking about general topics to do with the life of a 3D Student, interviews with other students/tutors/industry professionals will be posted then, and maybe even some talk of Freelancing will creep in.
  • Wednesdays will be the main tutorial day; most of the tutorials will be about Lighting, Texturing or Visual Effects (I did tell you they were my preferences), but I might also cover topics such as editing, animation/modeling principles, and general tips and tricks.
  • Fridays are going to be used primarily for reviewing products, websites, and so on.  I’ll be gaining money from these as an affiliate, but they’ll be useful and relevant I promise.

This means that by the end of the month I hope to have 12 blog posts, though I can see the number possibly skyrocketing if I decide there’s more to offer you on the other days of the week.

For now, thank you for taking the time to read my post – normal posting commences from Wednesday 6th January with our first Tutorial post.  Stick around and Welcome… to The 3D Student.

As always, feel free to comment, or email if you want to get in touch with me.  If you like what you see, you can subscribe with RSS here or by clicking on the button near the top of the page.  Thanks for reading!
